In November, our team attended Food Ingredients Europe (FIE) 2024 in Messe Frankfurt. FIE is the leading global food ingredients event. It is the place to connect with innovators and discover food trends on a global scale. Missed us at the event? Continue reading.
At FIE 2024, we showcased a range of high-quality protein ingredients in a variety of tasty and innovative concepts, such as:
- Spoonable Yoghurt made with NZMP™ Whey Protein Concentrate 515
- Drinking Yoghurt made with NZMP™ Whey Protein Concentrate 550
- Neutral pH Translucent Protein Water made with NZMP™ Whey Protein Isolate 895
Consumer preferences for health-promoting yoghurt
The high protein yoghurt concepts were inspired by the increasing protein claims and launches globally. In Europe, 1 out of 5 yoghurt launches have this claim on pack.1
It is well known that increasing protein intake can help consumers feel fuller for longer which supports weight management. Yoghurt’s versatility as a breakfast item or snack helps consumers distribute their protein intake throughout the day, ensuring they reach their optimal protein levels.2 The combination of high-protein, low-fat, or low-sugar claims, along with yoghurt’s reputation as a good source of dairy, has helped create a strong image for yoghurt as a guilt-free treat, which is why 9 in 10 consumers (in the UK) eat yoghurt as a treat and are drawn to products that promote health benefits.3
Growing consumer interest in RTD beverages
In addition to our cultured concepts, we have developed a RTD (Ready-to-Drink) beverage to showcase NZMP™ WPI 895 and capitalize on the current RTD trend.
In Europe, the share of flavored water launches has reached a record high, indicating a growing consumer interest in beverages that offer both hydration and enjoyable flavors. The addition of flavoring helps mask the taste of functional ingredients like vitamins and minerals, making these drinks more palatable. Furthermore, positioning RTD beverages in familiar snack formats makes them more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.4 This strategy allows consumers to easily integrate these drinks into their daily routines, making them a convenient choice for on-the-go nutrition.
Mark Horner presented on innovative protein solutions to enhance everyday food and beverage occasions
During this presentation, Mark explained how to formulate high-protein yoghurts, the critical steps in the manufacturing process, and how to formulate a neutral pH translucent protein water. The session attracted a large audience and was very well received.
