On Farm
Milk Collection
Milk is collected everyday from our Fonterra farmers. There are strict and thorough processes in place for checking the safety, quality and purity of milk.
At every farm pickup milk samples are taken and our tankers use cutting-edge testing technology to ensure only the highest standard of milk is processed.
Every milk collection is tested by an independent provider, and both raw milk and final product are tested under a national programme to ensure there are no chemical contaminates.

At peak production, we conduct 20,000 daily quality tests on our milk
Equally reassuring is the fact that all of our global production facilities are subject to a total of around 2,000 audits each year.

Our food safety and quality risk management framework ensures we identify and remain ahead of emerging food safety risks.
Processing
In New Zealand, Fonterra owns over 26 manufacturing sites where NZMP ingredients are made. We have an uncompromising approach when it comes to manufacturing - safety and quality are built into our processes and people capability at every step. Testing and audits give us the final assurance that our end to end quality management system is effective.
Shipping and Logistics
Around 2.5million metric tonnes of NZMP ingredients are exported from New Zealand every year. Before export our shipping containers are cleaned and inspected, once filled the containers are sealed to ensure the products remain safe on the way to their destination.
Food safety and quality is built into our process and our people from the beginning of our value chain until product reaches our consumers.
The safety of our NZMP ingredients start on a farm home to one of the thousands of Fonterra farming families. Our farmers have uncomprimising standards when it comes to ensuring the safety and quality of their milk.
They maintain individual food safety and quality plans, and undergo regular on-farm testing, and independent farm and environmental assessments.
